Alot of water has passed under the bridge since then, but I wonder if karnivool would pass on it if it was offered again. Would have been gut wrenching for them billed to play with their idols then shut down by them.
Makes you think, cause now Karnivool are pretty well established - with Sound Awake really breaking new ground for Prog. and maybe, if I may so bold to say, surpassing some of Tools material.

As much as I love Tool, i do think, at times that Maynard can be *ahem* a bit of a Tool... then again i once heard the guy praising Peter Gabriel's Passion album, which I thoroughly never expected and that made me respect him a gazillion times more...

Not too surprising really; Tool's music has had a certain tribal vibe about it every since Aenima: it just wasn't until Lateralus that people started to really take notice.

I think 10,000 days brings it out even more... that's fast becoming one of my favorite Tool albums, actually...

I really think 10000 days rewards repeated listens everytime I go back to it I fall in love with another track, phrase or riff/fill.
Although it may lack the agression and punch of earliar work it's a much more rounded and mature work.

I think this can be said for most of their albums, but especially 10,000 Days and Lateralus. I love that most of their songs have a plethora of different riffs and fills in them, so like you said every time you listen to it you can fall in love with something else.

I don't think Maynard is a 'tool,' I think he is just very, very firm in his beliefs and in the ways he expresses them. I think he would be a very intimidating person to meet, I would be terrified of him...

And yeah, totally agreed that Tool have a tribal aspect of them, which is apparent in almost all of their work.

Love Tool, though I wish they'd give more time to the next album instead of touring off and on.

Thanks for adding that comment about Maynard... it shows alot more insight than mine did. To be honest I think my response in my post is how I respond to intimidating people in general, probably not an accurate reflection of who maynard actually is...
