Them Crooked Vultures
Them Crooked Vultures is the new 'supergroup' featuring a collaboration between Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones, and Alain Johannes. It has been rumored the group had been recording secretly throughout the summer, and played their fist live show at The Metro in Chicago, IL on Sunday August 9, 2009. Reviews have said that the group played around 75 minutes of all original material and the the band looked and sounded top-notch. An unofficial setlist from the show included the following original songs: Elephants New Fang Scumbag Blues Dead End Friends Bandoliers Mind Eraser Gunman Daffodils Interlude w/ Ludes Caligulove Warsaw Nobodys Loves Me This lengthy setlist along with rumors that the group has been recording most of the summer lead me to believe an album will follow shortly. We can only hope. Photos credited to: Pitchfork.com

they also perform with Alain Johannes.
quite frankly it bugs the fuck out of me that he's overlooked at almost every turn in regards to this band. yeah his name doesn't have as much clout as the other 3 but he's hardly a slouch or a no name (eleven / chris cornell / QOTSA / desert sessions and i'm sure there's a bunch more as either songwriter, performer, or producer) all the hype is making this supergroup look like a return to old school power trio rock and it's inaccurate, quite frankly the more i read about it the more meh i get about it. |

i'd like to think there's a good reason why he was never mentioned before now but who knows, i certainly haven't read one. |

dunno. the reviews for audioslave were pretty positive too and when i listened to it i felt like someone pooped in my ear (and i actually liked cornell's first solo disc).
quite frankly this sounds like more of the same from those involved. that first clip sounds like a revamped black dog. the 2nd one reminds me of some old phil collin's tune (and is now removed from youtube before i finish typing this post). and the last one sounds like kyuss doing a blues tune. it's not a bad thing but it's not a new thing. in my eyes it's not the kind of departure that needs a new band name. had they called this the new QOTSA disc and line up i'd be ecstatic. i feared some more jack white-itis with another 'new' band that sounded like all their previous ones, and it's exactly what i'm hearing so far. |

I'm guessing this is not the time to admit I actually liked the first Audioslave record...
Anyway, meh, everything you've said is fair. I'm still very excited about the band, though. These small clips sound good to me, but I'll reserve judgment until we can hear some full songs. |
