Check out a couple of videos, get a feel for the sound. Don't listen to absolutely everything, leave room to be surprised.

Ah right. I recommend just go and listen to the rest later (not a lot of studio work to be found anyway). Let it blow your mind without knowing what's coming.

khfreek 10-05-2009 10:16 PM

Josh Homme and Dave Grohl dripped sweat. I got asked for dope by some out-of-towners. My right ear drum is damaged beyond repair. I give this show an A-.

Take any photo's?

Good to know you enjoyed it.

Videos Crooked Vulture

I love the first video clip, Nobody Loves Me, the sound is great. The next piece may have overdone the cymbal, playing.

I did record an audio clip of the last minute and a half or so of a song, dunno if it came out well though... if it did I'll definitely upload.

khfreek 10-06-2009 05:18 PM

only bad thing was, it was so ****ing loud I couldn't pick out JPJ's melody at ALL. And they wasted 40 minutes in the soundcheck tuning his 5 or so basses, because that's definitely a one-man job >_<

DanContogiannis 10-14-2009 12:49 PM

Saw them on Friday. Was AMAZING. John Paul Jones alone was worth the price of admission.

There are a few videos here - I didn't film them.

You could HEAR him?

Yes.

Most of the time.

khfreek 10-15-2009 07:43 PM

I guess they just decided our venue was built for being as loud as possible... that or I was standing on the wrong side of the auditorium

scottsy 10-15-2009 08:34 PM

Loud = great... unless you suffer some sort of severe hearing injury from it, which is kinda sorta not....

TammyJ 10-16-2009 08:05 AM

from what i've heard, i like. some real classic riffs. i imagine it would be killer live and loud.

almauro 10-16-2009 10:25 AM

I think Josh Homme's motivation lately has been competing against Jack White. First there was his response to the White Stripes with The Eagles of Death Metal, with himself playing the primitive skins, and now you got his reply to the The Raconteurs. Gosh darn it Josh, if you want to top Jack, collaborate with the original lineup of Kyuss!

khfreek 10-17-2009 11:01 AM

If he's competing with Jack White, he's done more than enough to defeat him

scottsy 10-17-2009 08:34 PM

More than enough I'd say.... but I doubt he's really trying to compete... it's more than likely a coincidence...

Surell 10-18-2009 12:55 PM

This band sounds like they'll be grrreat. I can't wait for the album to drop.

khfreek 11-10-2009 11:50 AM

not really a leak. It's an official release of the album via Youtube by the band.

These songs are WAY better live. Still great though.

adidasss 11-10-2009 12:00 PM

You're right, didn't bother to look it up, just saw the blog post...

I agree. The album rocks and sounds great but live it all sounded spectacular. Not disappointed at all though.

adidasss 11-11-2009 05:34 AM

Everything sounds better live. ;)

I like it. It's amazing how much a great drummer can benefit a band...Grohl is a god.

made it halfway through their first single, thought it was utter garbage. if this is indicative at all of what the next Queens album will sound like, i won't be buying that either.

So why is it so bad these guys got together simply because they wanted to make music together and make money while doing that? I think they're doing a very good job on it and can't wait to hear their album. I will buy it the minute it comes out. And the 40 euros I paid for their gig in Amsterdam were 40 euros very well spent!

It's called jealosy bro. Either people who are in a ****ty garage band that will never be succesful are jealous at anyone with sucess. Or people that only like unknown bands that kinda suck. It's all based on jealousy. If you don't like the band, I don't see any reason to comment on them unless it's music related. I don't like name-calling, but anyone who has something negative to say about a musician ( at that musican as a person ) is just a sad jealous loser.

It's kinda bland, but they do bland rock quite well...

FooFighting 11-13-2009 01:45 AM

I like them- I heard one of their songs (cant remember which one) and then really different. I love it when band members get together and make another band.

Anyhow, I'm seriously contemplating going to Munchen to see them live. Only we're kinda skint right now and it's a long ass drive...

scottsy 11-14-2009 08:39 AM

I just wanna hear their stuff! If anyone has an upload...

TheCunningStunt 11-15-2009 07:32 AM

Their album is great, first time I listened to it, I liked it. Didn't love it. But I feel like it's a grower, the more I listen to it, the more I'll like it.

scottsy 11-15-2009 09:04 AM

I'm OK with growers... I think half of my favorite albums are growers!

adidasss 11-15-2009 02:41 PM

Can't get enough of it. Definitely one of the best albums this year.

You can listen it for free on youtube scottsy, I guess...

adidasss 11-19-2009 03:32 AM

Had a few more days to digest it. There's only 3 songs I could do without, Elephants (although I love the first minute), Interlude with ludes and Warsaw, particularly the latter because I feel Spinning in dffodils would have been a perfect closing track.

For anyone following, P4K just published a (half-assed) review. 6.2. Hilarious. But I guess it'd be kinda like complaining about the NME list. :\

Incidentally, I'm a little surprised by the lack or response from MB...:\

Mojo 11-19-2009 04:35 AM

I've listened to it twice now and i like it. It's nothing spectacular, nothing original, nothing mindblowing but it's a good album. It's kind of what i expected in many ways. Alot of people will say this could have just been another QOTSA album and it isn't a million miles away but i wasnt looking for anything original and judged on its own merit it's a decent record. Mr. Grohl's drumming is of course top notce as well.

mr dave 11-19-2009 05:28 PM

i've only listened to it briefly and i'm more in line with mojopinuk (i only now noticed your name wasn't mojopunk haha). it's really good but not great. the two things that stood out the most for me was the relatively new singing style Homme is using with starting a lyric at one pitch then changing it up for every syllable like he's singing a scale.

the other, where the hell are the drums? did they use the ...And Justice For All method of production and give the drums that album's bass treatment? seriously they're so low in the mix at times i wonder what the point of bringing Grohl into the fold was. and when you can hear him it's not like he really sounds any different than Joey Castillo.

Mojo 11-19-2009 05:44 PM

I don't know what im more surprised by, how long its taken you to get my name right or no love for Grohls drums. Personally the moments this album did make me stop and pay closer attention, it was Grohls drums every time.

mr dave 11-19-2009 06:56 PM

it's not that i thought the drums were really bad or anything but i never noticed them standing out. if anything i found myself wondering where they were more often than not, then i'd have to focus on trying to find them in the mix.

maybe they're more prominent when listening through headphones as opposed to speakers, i'll have to give it another go one of these nights.

I felt the same, and will also have to give it another go.

On the other hand Holmes disappointed me. I enjoy QOTSA and such but I am mainly a fan of his early Kyuss work which seems to not be apparent at all in this recording.
