But thankfully theres some really open minded guys there too. Not all prog fans are middle aged man stuck in the 70s.
But unfortunately a lot of them are. The kind that talks about how closed minded kids are for not appreciating the greatness of Mike Oldfield, all the while pretty much dismissing every other genre of music. |

As a Jimi Hendrix fan I can honestly say he pretty much ruined the song and completely missed the mood of it. While more appealing from the stance of a guitarist everything else about the song feels soulless and dead. Bob's version is leagues ahead of it.

He ruined the song?
I didn't know making a song your own meant you were ruining it. |

Indeed. It meanders into this unemotive wank that just doesn't fit the mood of the song at all. It has no feeling. Plenty of depth and technicality but it just isn't the moving piece it should be.

You're just being a wanker on purpose. Even if you think that Hendrix's version is somehow worse, it certainly did justice to Dylan's in every respect. And I'm pretty sure that it wasn't unemotional at all. His voice reaches into great depth when he's singing. If it came across that way, that's just Hendrix's style coming through. He was very good, but he never made it look like (or sound like) he was trying too hard.
And you still haven't explained why Dylan himself switched to Hendrix's arrangement.

Dylan's version is not better.

With the exception of Guns N Roses covering Knockin On Heavens Door, if you cover a Bob Dylan song, it's gauranteed to be better than the original.
