Best SYL album to start off with is City then I would suggest Alien and finally my new favourite The New Black.

As far as some of the heaviest albums, I have to say Welcome To Sky Valley by Kyuss, it came on in the car during my drive through California's highways 89 and 44 and my god my car was rattling due to the bass. Sure it's nowhere near as heavy as some of the albums listed in this thread (and by far not the "heaviest") but man when you have your bass halfway cracked and the volume at a moderate level and the car still rattles, it really speaks for itself.

Loathsomepete, thanks for the SYL recommendations, I will be sure to use your advice when I begin to expand my SYL discography!

Not a huge fan of metal....but thought this album was heavy enough for this thread. Guess I can't post a pic because I haven't posted 15 times here....well the band I was trying to get an album cover is Fudge Tunnel and their debut "Hate Songs in E Minor".

I don't listen to that much heavy metal anymore, but this is the heaviest I've heard. I suppose I should get onto listening to more of what's out there.

Death is always heavy. Can't go wrong with the classics.

1. Melvins: The Maggot

2. Tad: God's Balls

3. Alice in Chains: Facelift

4. Judas Priest: Jugulator; My favorite Priest album is Painkiller, but Jugulator is heavier, and my second favorite album by Priest.

5. Megadeth: United Abominations; A lot of people might disagree with this choice, but Dave sounds really ticked off. The lyrics are aggressive (see 'You're Dead') and his voice is more gravelly than on the early albums.

I Agree on Megadeth's United abominations album
i thought its thiers best album scince Peace sells

Good to see that original posting on this board, asking for the heaviest albums by your favorites... in that case...

Monster - REM.... the most distortion I have ever on an REM album... Let Me In is a pure wash of distorted guitar with very little else to hinder it

Peter Gabriel 3... not necessarily a very guitar heavy album, but it has such a hard sound, with no cymbals and a very solid sounding production virtue...

World Coming Down - Type O Negative... by far their darkest, most dense and bleak album, and its great for those reasons...

I am sure I can think of more than these three and I will add them as I think of them!

Mm good choice as far as Type O is concerned, while I still hold that Bloody Kisses or Least Worst Of are my favourites, but as far as heaviest, World Coming Down wins hands down.

I really oughta get World Coming Down out for a listen soon... I do most of my listening and surfing on a sony Mylo device with only an eight gig memory card... I just bought a 16 gig card so much, much more music to be on this... so hopefully I can get most of my favorite artists / albums on this so I have them at my fingertips for ready listening while surfing...
