Anyway, from what I've ever heard of Cannibal Corpse, they don't strike me as being particularly bad, but more as being bland and pedestrian like. Kinda boring.

Corpse, eh? Hmm. I don't think they are particularly bad either (they're as terrible as most other bands of the same sort, they don't succeed at attaining any ground-breaking levels of awfulness). I think their lyrical themes though are absolutely sickening.

It's by no means logical. There are clear stylistic differences between Lakota tribal drum beats, hair metal and Beethoven. The differences are more stark than the differences between say a heist movie and a rom-com. The idea of categorization is to group something according to which prototype it most conforms to. This makes perfect sense for the purpose of adequately describing a band's sound in abstract terms.
Denying genre in music or movies is about as clever and logical as denying abstract terms for anything. Why make distinctions in furniture? Why call a table a table and a chair a chair? They're all furniture at the end of the day. You could have a crossover table that also performs the function of a chair, or vice versa. Or in art. Why call a portrait a portrait and a landscape a landscape? It's all painting at the end of the day. What about biolology? Why call humans humans and dogs dogs? We're all mammals at the end of the day. Mammals are mammals. Smart world view? I think not. |
