If there's one guy who deserves to be on here, it's Pino Palladino. He's a bit of a Jamerson in the sense that you may not have heard of him but you've definitely heard something by him. His resume includes Gary Numan, Paul Young, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Simon & Garfunkel, John Mayer Trio, the Who (replacing Entwistle), Richard Ashcroft, David Gilmour, Tears for Fears, Jeff Beck, Morcheeba, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Phil Collins... and the list goes on.
He became known through his fretless work for Paul Young - skip to 2:20
He moved away from fretless and started playing neo-soul in the 90s... you've heard him laying down deep grooves on D'Angelo's Voodoo He's playing for the John Mayer Trio nowadays (amongst other things) And here's THAT bassline from Gary Numan's Music for Chameleons He can play anything

lists
The problem with this list is the same as with all lists of its ilk. Its main basis is what YOU like. It is a popularity contest. You have some killer bassists on the list for sure, but the extremely obvious omission of one of the widely agreed greatest of all time is terribly evident. Ever hear Jaco pastorius play the bass?

I was glad to see The Ox (RIP), Donald "Duck" Dunn (RIP), Cliff Burton (RIP), Les Claypool and Steve Harris so high up on the list. I think Phil Lynott (RIP) should be higher on the list, but that might not be so much for his playing as for his sound altogether. Klaus Flouride was a surprise. Not because he shouldn't be on there, he's a really good player, but I figured "DK's bassist" would have just been written off.
Billy Sheehan is arguably the most technically skilled bass player around. He's fast as ****, he plays traditionally (with his fingers), and he uses a lot of unorthodox "tricks". I would say he's one of my favorites, but he's a Scientologist, and kind of a douche bag besides. Fun fact: I learned recently that Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas) is the son of Donald "Duck" Dunn. Shit. Was Trevor on the list? WHY THE FUCK NOT?!! Edit: Oh wait, there he is. Haha. How about that? Only father and son pair on that list, I bet!
