I did think about that. But yeah his chapman stick playing counts too, it has bass stings and they're tuned like a bass, so in part it is a bass instrument, and Levin plays it as a bass instrument, it's more often used by bassists than guitarists.
And it was him that popularized the instrument and it's use in progressive rock. |

I just felt that he was too high where I originally had him, but he certainly belongs on the list. He is a great player.

One thing I love about post punk is how the bass sets itself apart from the guitar. Some pretty great bassists have come out of that movement actually.

When I started playing bass, rush, led zepplin, RHCP's were all bands I loved to play. The best songs I loved playing was from jeff ament of pearl jam. that first album, he played 8 string basses, fretless basses and 12 string bass (jeremy). I'm sure he wasn't the first to do this but it was a great mix.
