Huh? Death is older than Sepultura and the same age as Possessed. I fail to see how they're "second wave".
I stand corrected.

Give "Bestial Devastation" and "Morbid Vision" a listen. It was before Kisser joined up with them. They were doing the DYI, low-fi, dark Satanic, horns up thing, comfortably placing them in league with Venom, Celtic Frost and Bathory.
Meh, I put all that early extreme stuff in the same category. I really don't think there's enough difference to put "Troops of Doom" in a different category than Death's "Evil Dead".

Keep in mind it was recorded in two days, and the band members couldn't speak English yet. They had a friend who could speak the language (sort of) translate for them so some of their lyrics on that EP aren't even grammatically correct. It's so strange to listen to early Sepultura and then pop in Chaos or Roots. It's like two completely different bands.
If I recall my liner notes correctly, they also didn't realize that the guitars had become detuned whilst recording; apparently, they did not know that - over the course of playing them for so long - they'd have to be retuned. Oh, and the drummer was operating with a partial kit.

Figured I'd bump this. I found out Control Denied's sophomore album When Man and Machine Collide may finally see the light of day this year.

Larry Lalonde from Primus played in Possessed, i think that link makes both bands way cooler. metal is always hit or miss with me, i think theres alot of **** out there for a few really good bands, but i love Death, Possessed and Sepultura. never really considered Sepultura death metal though

Bestial Devastation/Morbid Visions are very heavy on Death Metal. All else is on the thrash side.. with the exception of "Schizophrenia" which is the kinda balance between the 2. That album was the bridge between the two styles. Had elements of both.

never was huge on CD. Death was hit or miss with me starting with "Human" as well.

Figured I'd bump this as I'm going to give their discography an updated listen.

Wonder whatever happened to the OP? I don't want to be crass, but maybe death took him where he didn't think it would...?

I really like Leprosy. I just recently played it and then now I just bought Cannibal Corpse's first album and I have got to say that I'm liking Death much more. What about any of you? Death or Cannibal Corpse?
