This is a fairly true statement.

I've always liked Disturbed, but like I stated in another thread with Batty, I also find them fairly average, or good at best. They've had some really good songs, and a few albums where maybe all but a few tracks on the album were good to listen to, because usually it is how a Disturbed album goes; good first half, and a declining second half that feels more filler than anything.

I have the new album, and there's songs on there that grab me, I jam to them. Still, they've done what they always do and make an album with five to six good tracks, and the rest are mediocre or try hard filler. I think they could do better if they went away from making music for the radio.

From what I gather, there wouldn't be any new Disturbed if they weren't trying to make radio gold.

The plan all along was to make another album, they just didn't know when that would be...but, we all know that statement distracted their fans while the band members did other projects, but recording a new Disturbed album in secret.

So they make music for the radio, it isn't the worst thing. I just think that bands that are so concerned with radio success forget how to write music with bite to it, or substance at all. Sure you could argue that some of the rock on radio has bite to it, but I'd argue that it's still watered down. I say f*ck making sure your song can be played on the radio. Make your music sound how you want it to, if the radio thinks the lyrics are too controversial or explicit, f*ck'em. They can go listen to Nickelback.

Oh hey. You didn't say what you thought of Tremonti, that is if you gave that album All I Was a good listen.

I'd like to see Disturbed branch out just a little. They've been using the same djent crunch/silence impact which is pretty much their signature now, and they know that it works. I'm sure they've been led by their label to keep doing what they're doing. I'd like to be able to have a conversation with Dan without making waves with my friend Bob, and ask him a few questions to see if he even tried to propose anything new as far as traversing from what the fans are used to, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon, and I don't think he'd be too receptive to that idea either, since we're only connected through friends on FB.

As far as 'All I was', I gave it one listen and it was kinda meh. I could give it a review though. I might even do that.

At least the new album doesn't have anything as bad as this:

It amuses me whenever I find someone who likes that song. It immediately lets me know that that person is stupid.

I pretty much never listened to that song more than twice when I first bought their debut album in middle school, it's a bad song and actually annoying to boot. I had a friend in school who favored Droppin' Plates over every song on that album, I never understood why but I suppose I could chalk it up to him being an idiot.

haha yeah, or that too.

But I mean if you're going to pick a favorite Disturbed track, at least make sure it's actually one of their good tracks to begin with.

And if I had to pick my favorite Disturbed track from their debut, it'd have to be Numb. It has a nice dynamic to it. Violence Fetish is a good one too. Though I think you're more whatever about their music with your own songs you don't mind hearing.

And to add...

In general, I have fond memories attached to Disturbed and their music. My reason will probably make you laugh, but I am a huge Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z fan, and I would download music videos people had made of the anime to songs by Disturbed, Voices being a popular song to use. Music like this fit the show.

I was still listening to that kind of music when The Sickness came out, and it was one of the few things to survive my metal purist purge a year or so later. I'd break it out about once or twice a year to relive my nostalgia, but after a while I just got over it. I can listen to a song or two and kind of enjoy them, but an entire album is too much for me.
