I'm guilty of that.

Yeah, they can make nasty work for them. Normally I'm not a fan of noise oriented music but NJ does it very tastefully.
The riff in Murderotica is so vile

Have you heard their newest stuff? Talk about watered down.

I agree with mr. dave in that a bands religion or belief system shouldn't matter at all. Keeping on the topic of hardcore bands that just happen to be christian, I used to listen to Showbread. They were a kind of sludgy, hardcore punk band with synthesizers that I liked. They really didn't make a big deal about their faith, the only noticable thing being that they performed at a few churches (which confuses me, I can't picture a church letting them play).

I've had annoying experiences with "christcore" (I do admit that saying christcore or christian hardcore is easier then saying hardcore band that happens to be christian). I've met quite a few people who are really into hardcore, but are only allowed by their parents to listen to christian hardcore bands, or even worse, only christian bands in general.
I think the reason a lot of people put it in a separate genre is because bands that advertise their faith as being a large influence in their music often reflect that in their lyrics. For example, bands like My Children My Bride, The Devil Wears Prada, and Gwen Stacy have definite religious connotations. I agree though, that putting them in a genre all their own is pointless. The fact that I am against religion may play in that....but it does not change the fact that I still listen to bands that identify as "Christian" bands.

oh....and anyone old enough to be into hardcore or metal whose parents decide what music they can and can't listen to needs to grow a spine. (this is not to say that there is a certain age that someone has to be to listen to hardcore/metal, but I don't think I'm too far off in saying that most kids don't get into heavier music until they hit their early teens)

I don't mind "Christcore", or any music in general that has Christian related lyrics, I just don't like the preaching kind. I am athiest but I wont dismiss music that has religious lyrics at all. As long as it sounds good and doesn't preach to me, I'm happy.

Eh, I was never a huge fan of Norma Jean but I did jam out Bless The Child for a long time. We Came as Romans is ok. They try to do the scream/sing really high, scream/ sing really high/ growl. thing too much. They need to find the nitch and stray away from the basic metalcore. The classical keys are a nice touch. I feel like they can progess into something good if they apply themselves and get with the right people professionally.

I have to agree that I think metalcore as a genre has become ultimately repetitive and thus very bland... But I also have to agree that Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste is a sick song and covering it with my old band of pseudo-core dudes was the most fun I had in that band. I think Underoath's Act of Depression album is the only good one... For some reason almost every Underoath fan I've met hates it. I saw them once live and thought they sucked, but then, they never play AoD songs anymore obviously. The Christianity aspect is really a non-issue with me... I rarely pay attention to the lyrics in these bands in any case, usually because you can't understand them and they rarely have any creative value IMO. That said, Destroy The Runner is pretty excellent with their clean lyrics and melodic lines. They are somewhat of a guilty pleasure with me. No real breakdowns in their music either.

Kind of a pointless post but whatever.
