Ney laddie, at least not til the judges hear this
Also because it's relevant to both Strapping and the Red Chord, not heavy, but hilarious

Ya know, progressive rock is awesome, heavy metal is awesome. You'd think by mixing the two together you'd get something that is two times the awesome.
So WHY IS IT that most progressive metal is unbearable crap? Someone explain that one to me please. |

Heh, I don't consider PT prog metal but if they are than they're the only one I'm crazy about.
There are good prog metal bands. Pain of Salvation and Riverside are pretty sweet. But the bigger prog metal bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X, Fates Warning and Queensryche? Blegh. Perhaps it was ignorant of me to say "most" of it sucks, probably more fair to say that about half of it sucks. Mainly the older stuff. There's some newer bands now that are actually doing some really creative things. |

Wasn't trying to say PT was prog metal. I was saying they were contemporary prog and I don't like them. Too overproduced & synthy sounding for my tastes, which is what I find from most post 70's prog bands. |

Different strokes I guess.
And PT is too synthy? Criticizing a prog band for being synthy strikes me as odd, what with it being the genre of the 3 minute moog solo and all. And I don't really get that either, there's a lot of guitar in PT's stuff. But I do kinda feel this way about neo prog, the way synths and keyboards seem to dominate while the other instruments take a back seat and it sounds so freaking 80s. I'm fine with bands being stuck in the 70s. But the 80s? |

No instruments define prog better than the moog and mellotron, I wish more modern prog bands would use them instead of them cheesy casios.
