I really like the raw Black Metal sound of Behexen. I have no idea if they are well regarded but then I don't really care either. Black Metal should sound raw but with plenty of punch.

Never have really gotten into the raw black metal. My girlfriend really liked it it though. our tastes have matured a bit. Drudkh is a superb Black metal band. and there lyrics are in sanskrit how badass is that!!!
I do not really hate any Genre or sub genre, too each his own. |

I'm sort of the opposite on black metal. Raw black metal is awful. The cheesy keyboards at least add some form of atmosphere to the song. Even if it makes me "unkvlt" or whatever I'd still listen to Dimmu Borgir over Leviathan and I'll be damned if Cradle Of Filth don't crush Absu. Drudkh are good when they're being more folky but when they play more straight forward bm the music gets dull fast.

1. Mayhem 2. Cradle of Filth (which is more gothic metal) 3. Mercyful Fate (if you even consider them Black metal) 4. Venom (actually a NWOBHM band but are considered black metal) 5. Celtic Frost (people actually consider them Black Metal!!!!)

Venom were one of the originators of the extreme sound mixed with the heavily Satanic lyrics. They're also believed to have coined the term "Black Metal" with their 1982 release Black Metal. Now while it may not sound like the black metal we're familiar with from Norway, it doesn't mean they're not black metal. The same can be said for Celtic Frost, they were part of the "first wave of black metal".
