wow, i just listened to that damaged song and it sounds poorly recorded and there is no intensity in it all. It's not the worst music, but it definitely isn't on the same level as all that remains.
They sound nothing like all that remains, are you sure they influenced them?

That's what hardcore is
And who cares how it was recorded, It was recorded cheaply in 1982 on a small record label so of course it's not going to be up to standard of big budget digital 2009 recordings. It also happens to be one of the most influential albums from that genre. And if you don't think early Black Flag is intense you have no comprehension of the word. Would you like to tell me how playing a guitar very fast in a state of the art digital recording studio is 'intense'?

I'm not an enormous Black Flag fan myself but you cant deny they were intense, just listen to My War and watch them live on youtube. Failing that try State of Alert, another band Henry Rollins was in. |

This is the intensity that Urban and I are alluding to. This is over 20 years old. Recorded in a week and the drummer is 14. Go to 1:45 and hear intense.

like i said, the music is not bad, it's just outdated and the instruments sound stale. Of course, because it is nearly 30 years old.
People who like that stuff, and who are generally older ( mid 30's+ ) are most likely not going to respect the metalcore/hardcore genre at all. I can see why. But, screw the influences, i listen to what sounds the best. I am a huge fan of riffs and solos and fast paced music, so i respect the older stuff, like old metallica ( kill em all ) and judas priest but i as much as i like them i just find metalcore and some of the other stuff being made today to be far superior instrumentally. It's what sounds better to me, even though some of the most skilled and influenced guitar players were making music 30 years ago, i still think bands now days can take music to a whole new level and sound better in almost every aspect. Who thinks riffs and solos were better in 1985 compared to now days? i still find it funny how some haters think that bullet are average musicians. They are definitely good at solos and they make decent guitar riffs, yet people call them emo and generic. Padge is a ****ing great guitarist, are you kidding me???

This is 2005 and my old faithful video. It doesn't have to resort to cliched metalcore to be heavy:
