The problem with the Irish metal scene is that you could have hundreds of half-decent bands like this but none of them will ever get anywhere. This is cos the irish media and promoters etc are too narrow-minded and conservative to even give 2 ****s about them. The only way they can get anywhere is to leave the country.

I love Primordial. Saw 'em at Wacken, going to see them here in Toronto in less than 2 weeks.

One thing I've noticed a lot about being in a band is that it doesn't really matter where you're from. If you can get decent enough backing from a label (distribution, touring, etc.) then just as long as you're willing to stick it out, you have a chance.

It might be a different situation in America or mainland europe. The problem with Ireland is that our population is too small for metal bands build up a fanbase by touring. And out of that population the metalhead to normal people ratio is far worse than, say, Scandinavia. The only way bands like Primordial were able to build up huge fanbases was by leaving the country and concentrate on touring europe.

Yes. Of course. I understand what your saying by they can't expect to make a living out of it by never leaving the island. I mean, look at all the British metal bands. I was saying that they could still have a successful career in music and still keep Ireland as their home base.
