System are alternative metal. The different musical influences that you speak of are punk and Armenian music.

Thank God! Somebody who understands. Thanks for putting so succinctly what I was trying to say.
I don't usually get caught up on genres but its the principle. System of a down are not Linkin Park.

It is a personal thing. When I think Nu-metal I always think of linkin park, limp biskit and papa roach etc. and I see them as kind of cheesy and poppy. I would likely here their songs in the charts. I never heard system, slipknot or korn in the charts
At a stretch Korn are similar especially recent korn and if slipknots tracks were slower maybe but not system.
Really? SOAD had three number one albums and was the first band since the Beatles to release two chart-topping albums in the US in the same year. Slipknot has had three albums in the top ten. And ten of Korn's releases have made the top ten. All three of these bands have had numerous platinum releases, many of them even went multi-platinum.

I can see where they're a little different from the other bands but I'd still call them nu-metal.

Its a thin line, but SOAD have progressive elements to their sound as well and influences from outside of metal such as Armenian folk, these elements are enough to classify them as alternative metal.

You could even say, that they have incorporated nu-metal influences into their overall sound.

Do you have a Top 40 chart in America? Possibly these bands were in the top 40, to be fair I never paid that much attention so I could be wrong but when I say charts I mean pop charts. I didn't listen to the radio much but I listened enough to hear limp bizkit and Linkin park played. I can't remember ever hearing SOAD, slipknot or korn but it might just be my ignorance. Like I say I didn't listen to the radio much or pay attention to the charts. I still don't so I suppose Im not really in any position to make statements...

Yes, we have the top 40. These bands weren't just in the top 40 here though, they all hit #1.

Their top 40 is the same as the UK, most metal may not get played that much on UK radio but SOAD, Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park have sold millions of albums around the world and all highly commercial.

of these bands this is my opinion:
SOAD- Great and original metal act
Slipknot- Don`t deserve the bad rap they get.
Korn- Classic debut album and the follow-ups pretty good as well, not a huge fan but will listen to them.
Limp Bizkit- I`m a fan of this group and again the huge dislike of this group is not justified
Linkin Park- Biggest load of crap out there!!!

Yeah Linkin Park are paper thin. Ive heardsome good limp bizkit but on the whole not very much. Keep rollin was kind of annoying. I remember hearing a Limp Bizkit song in a car ages ago and the beginning of it sounded like Rage against the Machine. The rest of the song didn't though. I wouldn't mind hearing it again if you can guess what it might be and if you want to suggest some other good tracks, feel free...

Nu Metal isn't as bad as what people say.

I don't mind most of it, but I don't really listen to it.
