What a pile of absolute crap. It is possible to mix dance beats and electronica with distorted guitars and make it sound interesting (Bong Ra and Drumcorps for example) unlike that which is basically Pop music and generic at that. Shocking.

Yeah, I'm still reeling from the shock myself. Some people like this stuff. Somebody I know has a teenage relative who is in a band that identifies as 'post-crunkcore'.
For me, Nu Metal was bad enough but now I finally (and sadly) know what it feels like to be completely out of touch with the youth of today.

one of my roomies listens to nu metal obsessively... and insists it's Hardcore.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

Nu-Metal as a "genre" has a way worse rep than it deserves. A lot of the stuff was innovative and honestly with better songwriters instead of it being such an "angry" genre, your looking at some of the more innovative music to come out.Sure its a lot of genre bending and no solos and its catchy...but some "Nu-Metal" bands that are classified as such were quite good.

I think 40 Below Summer was one of the more original sounding metal bands in the past decade. I think that Flaw got lumped in that discussion and Chris Volz has an amazing voice. Korn really were a breath of fresh air in the 90's and Helmet is a very interesting band and is often coined with the title of the first nu metal band.

I don't even have a clue what crunkcore is, but that made me crack up.

If you hate nu-metal, blame Anthrax. They were the ones that brought rap into metal (e.g. Touring with Public Enemy, the song Bring the Noise, ect.). Sure they weren't really nu-metal, but they kinda made an outline for future nu-metal bands. Not all nu-metal is bad. SOAD is excellent and I'm sure there are more good ones that I haven't bothered listening to.

System of a Down aren't really nu metal though. They are good though.

Never. I love Anthrax and I won't blame crap like Limp Bizkit on them just because they, Anthrax, were a metal band that liked rap in the 80s.
