Nu Metal is awful, and if you disagree than you have objectively terrible taste in music. Slipknot is what is wrong with today's youth.

The only ones that could be considered somewhat decent that fly the Nu Metal flag are deftones and maybe early system of a down(big maybe).

Never really understood the flak that Slipknot gets...I bet if the fans weren't so pathetic the band would be much more respected (also probably if they didn't wear masks)

But yeah, pretty much all nu metal is garbage. Deftones and SOAD are certainly alt metal, not nu metal. So those two bands are sort of irrelevant. Deftones is mostly quality stuff, SOAD is passable occasionally

u guys got dem hater/blind bias shades on Deftones and SOAD first albums we NU metal 100% most of the songs had DOwn tuned guitars and Chugga chugga Riffs that was to me the Main formula of Nu metal Down tuned guitars and the 7 string

Naw. They are not what is wrong with anything. Not to say I care for their music, but the same thing has been said generation to generation.... be it Elvis in the 50's. to Slipknot and beyond.... music is what is wrong with the youth... I argue that the youth were fucked before they even picked up an Elvis record, or a Slipknot record... whatever.

Music can be a product of what is wrong with the youth, but not the cause. Same thing has existed throughout history.

I would look at bad parenting, before I look at what the youth in question is listening to. I remember being able to watch R-Rated movies and listen to album with "explicit lyrics" when I was 9 years old.... I turned out fine (I think).

I mean, I do not blame ICP for selling to rednecks, I blame the rednecks who are too stupid to know the music is shit, and/or believe what they are saying is all just equal bullshit.

ICP is terrible. Though I do find juggalos intriguing in a pathetic, misunderstood sort of way.

Anyways, I never know what to consider as nu metal or what elements exactly make a band nu-metal. I guess I've always considered it aggressive riffs with some sort of rap-metal or more of a rhythmic sounds with more pop undertones. Something like that.

When I was a bit younger, I enjoyed Limp Bizkit and Korn. Then I looked back and thought it was horrible. But now I just kind of appreciate it for what it was. Not as some sort of masterpiece, but some catchy tunes that were kind of between genres. I've never really thought of SOAD as nu-metal (not sure I ever considered them anything to be honest - i'm not big on genres anyways) but I loved them until Mezmerize and Hypnotize which I thought were rectum.

I agree with lolpocalypse, I think Slipknot would be morle respected if they weren't so gimmicky with the masks and their fans weren't perceived as douches. I actually really like some Slipknot and don't get the hate.

Are Deftones nu-metal?? And should I check more of them out?

i was just trying to point out to some people the deftones first album to me sounded nu metal ....i think they even did one song with Max from soulfly engine no 9 i think which at the time was one of the four fathers of the NU metal sound

i own all the deftones albums by the way and Deftones after there first album pretty much naturally grew from each album to album from then on
