They sound like nu-metal to me.

I strongly agree with that. Like I said before, all the really bad metal bands seemed to be grouped with nu-metal even if they aren't. For instance, Disturbed. I realy can't stand them, but I don't think they would fall in the same sub-genre as Slipknot or Korn. SOAD on th eother hand I really like, and they shouldn't be considered nu-metal because a)hey're not the same genre as Korn and such and b)they don't suck as much as nu-metal bands.

Spot on! Mind you the very early Slipknot was excellent until they went too commercial, the fickle hand of fame!

All of those bands sound very much like the same style of music to me. Calling them "nu-metal" isn't meant as a put-down (though I admit I'm not a fan of the style), it's just saying that the bands have a similar sound.

SOAD are similar to Deftones in a way. SOAD have obviously moved away from the 'nu-metal' tag with Mezmerize/Hypnotize but i still class their s/t and Toxicity as nu-metal albums.

I used to like some Slipknot songs, like ten months ago. Now I can't stand any of it.

Sorry to bump this, metalheads but I'm actually really starting to like this genre as a whole. It's weird too, because I used to really hate this style of music, back when I listened to nothing but thrash and 80s metal. However, seeing as how I have a much more open mind when it comes to music, I'm really starting to appreciate this style of music as nothing more than just fun, angry, and aggressive music, even if most of the bands aren't really "metal" per say. It was actually Machine Head's "sellout" album The Burning Red and the two tracks Desire to Fire and From This Day that got me into the genre. I just like the aggressiveness, I like the beat, I like the anger, and yes call me stupid, but I even like the rapping, I think it goes well with the music overall.

I also really like Sevendust, Coal Chamber, Drowning Pool's first album, Saliva's first album, Disturbed, Korn's first few albums, and *gasp* Limp Bizkit. I know this music isn't exactly liked by most metalheads to say the least, and it's looked at as mallcore **** for angsty teens, but hell I like this style of music, it gets me pumped. At least it's better than that deathcore/screamo **** that's popular today.
