Horrible Lyrics that reek of lame teen angst. Nothing engaging about them at all. Just trivial and superficial lyrics about how life sucks and people suck and blah blah blah. Now I know some will say, you listen to Death Metal... difference is I do not listen to it for lyrics really.. In the case of a band like Slipknot, lyrics are important... I can not stand writing that feels like it is written around swearing and angst. That is the big one for me and Slipknot, awful songwriting. The music is meh as well, nothing special. I never get why people insist Joey Jordison is amongst the best drummers... Same as the people who insist Travis Barker is I suppose.

But all in all, boring band who just wrote bad lyrics over medicore music.
..........and they really don`t need 9 people to produce the music that they make.

Yeah. I agree... 4-5 members would be just as good.

What is up with the guy who plays the trash cans anyways? my theory is he was turned away when he auditioned for Stomp and Slipknot just took pity on him and let him join their band.

Makes me wonder what happened to the 80's band Slipknot. Crossover band that was on Revelation Records

Is this one of the two guys who they have as a "custom percussionist"?

I think the overall animosity many people feel towards nu metal bands like Slipknot is that they are a reminder that metal is plagued with just as many hanger-ons as any other genre. People who will just accept what is presented to them, only willing to scratch the surface of what the genre has to offer.

I think this rubs off on metalheads because of the exclusiveness of the genre, which largely consists of people considered to be "social misfits". People who just aren't wired the same was as others and as a result don't find the same solace in ideologies found in the "normal" audience. Nu metal is kind of the antithesis of what metal was suppose to be about, a corporate ideology, washed and sanded down of all grit or roughness until it's something easily marketable to a certain demographic. While I won't say this isn't untrue for other genres (I mean just look at thrash metal after that took off) but it seemed like nobody was really denying it or trying to hide it with nu metal.

I will say this in nu metal's defense though, for people born 20 or less years ago, it's a great entry point into metal after you've familiarized yourself with what are considered to be the essentials (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc.) After you've worked you way through the surface of what past decades had to offer, you'd want to hear something with a more modern sound, it's easy to fall into the nu metal trap. Maybe even trap is too negative of a word, but I can't think of anything less... sinister. Bands like SlipKnot to me are like Fisher Price bands, baby's first taste of something a bit heavier than what the '70's and '80's had to offer in terms of accessible newbie metal, but something that is also widely enjoyed by other people, giving them a group to latch onto. For kids going through high school, that can be a lifesaver, and I think even SlipKnot say the same thing about themselves in the documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey.

So overall I dislike nu metal because of what it represents, but I tolerate it because it gives kids an access point, which will hopefully intrigue them enough to expand upon and delve deeper into the wilds of the metal genre.

Thats what wiki calls him anyway. I don`t like or dislike Slipknot personally and just see them as a fad of the nu-metal/alt-metal era and I actually quite like the debut Stone Sour album. As for Godsmack who were mentioned earlier, now they really are shite and almost as bad as Disturbed.

I can get behind this.... it is true, Nu-Metal is an entry point into what metal has to offer... I listened to Slipknot when they came out cause everybody I knew loved them (and many still do).... but I got tired of them when I explored metal deeper and deeper and just found them to be really bad the more i dove into it.

Nu-metal and melodic metalcore have since the 1990s proved excellent entry points into metal proper and for these reasons they are essential metal genres and bands like Korn and Slipnot offer an entrance into the even heavier side of these genres as well. When I was at school, like a lifetime ago there was no such thing as entry bands into metal, you either liked bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and AC/DC etc or you didn`t and hardly anybody at my school liked these bands. Metal at that time was basically music for outcasts and outsiders and you could spot most metalheads a mile off with their long hair and denims, it wasn`t cool to like metal! Metal became trendy for a while in my school around 1983 with Van Halen`s Jump but as everybody knows Van Halen had a glam image and pop sensibilities in a lot of their material, I think they were pretty groundbreaking as an unofficial entry band into metal, without knowing it or really being aware of it, I moved slowly into Def Leppard and the Scorpions after hearing Van Halen, so i kind of owe Van Halen for that.
