Eh, I don't see why not. Both groups are full of asshats when you come to think about it.
And yeah, I've only listened to Coal Chamber's first album, and it's certainly pure nu metal. Haven't really listened to their other two albums yet though, so I can't be the judge on that. =P

Not arguing, correcting. Facts are facts, Coal Chamber are nu-metal. I do not think Metal fans have to argue anymore than nu-metal fans have to argue to try and remove their favorite bands from an applicable tag.

I could understand Il Duce's frustration though. Slipknot and Godsmack (both alt metal) are often given the nu metal tag, and receive unnecessary hatred because of it. The same thing happens to metalcore bands as well.

Naw, Slipknot recieves hatred cause they are awful, not because of what sub-genre they fall into.
Godsmack, yeah, would consider them alt-metal.

I'm just gonna take a stab at the general reason people like me and perhaps these other folks don't like Slipknot is that their music isn't interesting or appealing enough... (ya know, personal opinion). And just because I feel like I might as well say it... enough to justify their get-ups...
I *could* listen to Before I Forget, but I'd rather listen to... something else. And that's the way I've felt about their songs when I heard them in the late 90s, too. Meh. Not awful. For example, I'd take Slipknot over most radio garbage like Nickelback, or pop or country music if those were the options. But I'd rather listen to anything else almost. |

As is thie case with 99.999% of all nu-metal...
Horrible Lyrics that reek of lame teen angst. Nothing engaging about them at all. Just trivial and superficial lyrics about how life sucks and people suck and blah blah blah. Now I know some will say, you listen to Death Metal... difference is I do not listen to it for lyrics really.. In the case of a band like Slipknot, lyrics are important... I can not stand writing that feels like it is written around swearing and angst. That is the big one for me and Slipknot, awful songwriting. The music is meh as well, nothing special. I never get why people insist Joey Jordison is amongst the best drummers... Same as the people who insist Travis Barker is I suppose. But all in all, boring band who just wrote bad lyrics over medicore music.
