I'm not disputing the validity of your your statement, just asking how do you measure their current popularity?
They have sold several million albums (I think 16 million worldwide) and they are recognized locally in Indy. It is easy to tell a popular band by judging from the people in the town around me. Their tastes are fairly limited to the most mainstream so if they know of it, it must be relatively popular. My local "alternative" radio station plays them from time to time, and this is a station that plays the likes of Three Days Grace, Nickelback, U2, Coldplay, Skillet, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, etc. Not to mention that Godsmack co-headlined Mayhem Festival alongside Disturbed (both of which played AFTER Megadeth I might add). The popularity of their singles really helps them (especially the most recent "Cryin like a B****", even though that is probably one of their worst songs).

I remember when they used to play this commercial around 2000 or 2001 (if it is the one I'm thinking of, I can't view it as my school does not allow streaming video during class). "Awake" is a great alt metal song

As you say, even the name came from a AIC track.
Singer Sully Erna has cited Alice in Chains' former vocalist, the late Layne Staley, as his primary influence on singing.

Nah, I'd much rather chill with a bunch of juggalos (and smoke up with them, since most of them probably smoke weed) then a bunch of annoying, douchey, ***goty looking peter pan haired scene kids ANYDAY! and I don't even like ICP to being with.

Both are annoying trend hoppers in the end though. if anything the Metalcore fans are the evolution of the nu-metal fans. Like pokemon.

Eh, more like devolution, but it's whatever. Some metalcore is alright though. However, people who are still into nu metal in 2011 at least stay true to the style, and thus, shouldn't be compared to the annoying trend hoppers who liked it from 1998-2002, imo.

Nah. I've hung out with juggalos. They're bad people. They're not just morons, they're legitimately bad people.

Nah, I know what you mean, I'm not nessacarily defending them, I'm just saying that I like them better than scene kids, simply, because they generally ain't as douchey. Alot of juggalos are junkies and some steal from friends, but not all of them are bad. I have like 2 or 3 self-described juggalo friends, and they're cool to chill with sometimes.

no. They are nu-metal. Listen to the first album again, it is the embodiment of nu-metal.
