I put The Exies and Juliana Theory in the category of Alt Rock.
I think they're good.
As for grunge, i'd probably have to go with Nirvana

My favourite of that grunge era are Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.

Yeah Soundgarden for me, or Silverchair. Apparently they're grunge, as in Neon Ballroom, but It depends on what album you choose. as for Alt. rock, emmm Well yes, the Chillis, but only their earlier stuff. I spit on their 2 latest albums. Pah.

Quite a lot of bands are classed as alternative nowadays, but i spose there aren't really any grunge bands?

From what I've heard, I wouldn't say so, although I get mixed up about the term grunge a lot so I may be wrong.

Alice In Chains in the grunge department and i would have to agree with swimintheundertow on Dinosaur Jr. in the alternative department.
