Hehehehe... how easy it is to explain musical genres and subgenres out of existence...

Since I've waded into the subgenre waters this far , how about adding a bunch of subgenres to grunge: 1. traditional grunge: Mudhoney, Green River 2. heavy grunge: Tad, My Sister's Machine 3. sludge grunge: Melvins, Willard 4. pop grunge: Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, and any 'post-grunge' band 5. doom grunge: Alice In Chains, Temple of the Dog, 'Ten' by Pearl Jam No, I'm not serious.

Doom grunge, I like that.
Tad is defiantely one of the most underrated grunge bands. Heavy Grunge never gets love. The bands the successfully bridged the gap between grunge and metal were some of my favorites.

I think it is appropriate to the spirit of the non-movement that became known as "grunge" that the best album it spewed forth should get a zero rating in a poll on an internet music discussion forum

I recall reading once a long time ago that the Melvins invented grunge by switching from being the fastest band around to the slowest, more-or-less overnight. Of course, I may have read that in ROLLING STONE, so take it how you will.

I agree with you there, VS is my favourite PJ album. Ten might have the bigger hits but did contain some meh tracks like Oceans and Garden. VS is a far more consistant album overall, and it contains Rearviewmirror!
