That Ministry album was way out of character for them, I wouldn't use it as a reference point for their sound.

I'm kind of the same way...I was into metal in the late 80s through the mid 90s but explored other genres since then (various electronic, hip-hop, indie, hardcore, punk, prog, psych, etc) and Mastodon is one of the few recent ones I've gotten into. Not that I really try to get into much metal these days, I'm not necessarily looking for any, but kind of curious in a way. I know a lot of names of respected metal bands I guess I'm just not that inspired to check them out.
