Ok, so Dookie is only the real essential from them? When it comes to Punk Pop, most people tell me the essentials are Smash and Dookie. Are there any other albums by Green Day and Offspring that are essential? Do you really think Americana and American Idiot are worth it? Warning? PopPunk by other bands?

to me the last Green Day album that I liked was "Nimrod"... just skip "Good Riddance" and it was a solid album. After that it was just okay to me.
But I like everything up to "Nimord".

Also don`t listen to the negative vibes over UFO, because any respectable rock and metal collection at least needs a couple of UFO albums. The ones to get are "Phenomenon" "Lights Out" and "Obsession" In fact any your 70`s hard rock/metal collection should have albums by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, UFO, Scorpions, Free, Humble Pie, Blue Oyster Cult, Triumph etc I could go on.................... Without these bands it just ain`t a collection |

OK so I just bought Dookie, Eels - Beautiful Freak, Air - Moon Safari, and Suede - Suede. Do you guys think these are good albums? Opinions?
I've been buying albums from bands I'm not familiar based on allmusics album picks. (When they have a check next to an album) Do you guys think that's a good way of going about it? |

Has this method been working well for you? What's the percentage of albums that you get that you actually enjoy based off of doing it that way.

So Im wondering, what is you guys opinion on Dookie vs. Smash? What about Green Day vs The Offspring in general? Who has the better albums/discographies/more talented members?
Really interested on what you guys think about this. |

Nice to see that In Flames at least tried to throw the old school fans a bone on the new record with "A New Dawn". The dueling leads are in classic melodeath fashion. Tasteful, yet subtle synths add texture to the track (accompanied with some amazing strings-these are real cellos gentlemen, not pre-recorded Logic samples) and I think Anders' vocals throughout the album are some of the best "lighter" vocals he's ever done. Hopefully this will get some you metal forum regulars to sit down and give this album a fair listen through.

SoundgardenRocks, for my money, the best pop punk band is Screeching Weasel. Melodic without being saccharine, and lyrics which are fun & irreverant but you can enjoy the songs without paying attention to what's being said. The musicianship is solid; not great, but - hey - this is pop punk, and it's of sufficient quality that it doesn't detract from the quality of the songs.
