One part of me says "don't buy stuff like AC/DC and Kiss, it's too simple and there is so much better music you could be listening to. If you're going to listen to boring rock music, at least make it stuff that matters like The Who and Zeppelin" while the other part of me says "What's wrong with some good fun rock n roll? You know you'll like it, even if it isn't a step in your musical progression. Just buy it."
ARGHH! Which side do I listen to? Even though I have about 200 bucks to spend on music right now, I don't know what to do! |

do you not have a second hand music store where you live? like a trade shop? You would probably be better off spending money in a place like that.

only as limited as ones own knowledge of music. haha.. but yeah, if you know not what you are looking for, it is limited.
Nothing wrong with liking stuff like AC/DC (the keyboard really needs a lightning bolt button, it never seems right typing it out like that!)... or KISS. You are right, it may be mindless music in some regards, but it is just kinda fun stuff.... not like people should send their whole life being serious and listening to "serious music" from "serious bands" and "serious singers" blah blah blah..... Just like and accept the things you like, and listen to whatever you like. It may be simple to one person, but all that matters is that you like it. Sure one day you may outgrow it or get bored with it... hell, I think of stuff I listened to when i was say 16 and think to myself... wow, this really sucks now that i sit down and listen to it... just the same as i am willing to bet when i am 36 i will look at some of the stuff i listen to now and say the same. But every now and then i will still listen to it for the sake of nostalgia and to remind myself where i came from... it always still has a soft spot for me in one way or another. Don't worry about what others say, like and accept whatever you like... if they do not like it, they do not have to llisten to it. If you wanna listen to AC/DC (once again, i want a lightning bolt!) or KISS go for it. We all have different tastes, that is what makes us unique, no such thing as something everyone can agree on. You will have plenty of time to listen to "serious" music later when you start getting old and boring, haha... but dont be afraid to have some fun and just rock out every now an then as well.

well said Some close minded elitists around here need to read this and understand that other people have different tastes and listen to whatever they like to and that doesn't make their taste any better or worse than your own it's just different.

Thanks... and hey, I am not going to sit here and say I can not be that close minded elitest myself at times... I can be. However, I try and not think popular opinion is the be all end all of it.... I like debate, I always have.. and I am always willing to hear peoples side to it as well... people confuse debating and arguing a lot of time the time... and hey, nothing wrong with being opinionated... I think if somebody accept themselves and accepts what they love, they can debate it without just arguing it... you get the people who as soon as you speak badly on something they like, they just call you names and get immature and put you down.
I like to examine music, I like to dissect things, and sometimes that leads me to be close minded, but I try not to. I think confucious said it best when he said: "Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." But in the end, I speak to my opinions on the music in question, and not on the person listening to it. One more quote, kinda says the same, by George Carlin: "I love and treasure individuals as I meet them; I loathe and despise the groups they identify with and belong to."

There are no elitists on here, just honest opinions by forum members. Most people on here, want to see both good and bad opinions about bands, so there is really no need to make an issue about this.
