Well it appears that my post was lost in the moving of your thread, but here it is again.
I must start this post by saying I don't agree with most metal fans about this. I love other genres of music and know for sure that they can be as good/better than metal. As previously said, no one song can be the best. Not only that but one song can't represent all metal. Why? Because of the diversity within the genre. That's common in all genres of music though. The song that opened my eyes to metal and made me curious to explore the genre was Black Sabbath's War Pigs.

There are a few quintessential Metal albums, but there's no real "best" that everyone agrees on. My personal favorite Metal song would be "Octavarium" by Dream Theater, but it's a good bet you don't have 24 minutes on your hands. I'll post in anyway incase you do. And it also depends on what you call metal depending on what you call "metal. To me, Ozzy Osbourne's solo career, Guns 'N Roses, AC/DC, and Aerosmith, are all Hard Rock. Some people really disagree with this. But that's the non-elitest scenario. You have no clue how few bands are always agreed to be "true" metal. None I can think of off of the top of my head, but I know the sound. Second best METAL song of mine. Finally, a couple hard rock favorites that some people might call metal. The second one is much more what I refer to when I say "hard rock". The first one is kind of... Modern metalish hard rock, if that makes any sense.

Metallica has many great, great songs, but All Nightmare Long? It's good, but that's overrating it.

When I heard All Nightmare Long is when I decided that I am going to keep listening to Metallica even after The Day That Never Comes

Would anyone happen to have any Black Metal suggestions for someone who just recently started listening to a metal less than a year ago? I tried looking myself but couldn't really find anything that I liked besides Melechesh.
