Alright I'm a noob metalhead right now, but I really want to get into some GOOD music. I really like Metallica and Escape The Fate and I recently heard some Opeth so if anyone wants to recommend me some Opeth?

I really like hard, dangerous riffs.
Probably more instrumental than singing.
I like growling and screaming better, but I HATE screamo/bands with guys who have pop voices and scream.
I don't really like scratchy deep voices, I don't really know how to explain that, which is why I lean towards older rock.

Any recommendations?

If you like Opeth then you`ll probably like the whole Swedish death metal scene of which you can try bands like In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity amongst many others. Also Finnish band Children of Bodom are another great option. Max Cavalera era Sepultura will give you in my opinion the ultimate thrash/groove metal experience and bringing you right up to date with the groove thing try Lamb of God the true heirs to the Pantera throne who growl out the vocals!

All of the above are pretty mainstream and theirs a whole load of more obscure or experimental sounding stuff you could get into as well.

Another band to look at would be the Melvins a sludge and experimental metal band that were hugely influential on grunge back in the day.

Finally Opeth, do you just like the death metal stuff of the mellower stuff they often do?

Have you checked out High on Fire? Their style is kind of a throwback to 80s thrash bands like Metallica. You might dig them:

So if you like Opeth and want more by them, I recommend albums Blackwater Park, Still Life, Damnation and Watershed.
Maybe you may like also bands Katatonia, Anathema, Pain of Salvation. I love also Tool but it's band on their own - you love it or not, probably nothing between.
Some good band with growl and catchy melodies is for example Swallow the sun, maybe Amorphis and Ghost Brigade.
Just now I found one band that seems to be my new addiction - Agalloch. Try them. Lot of instrumental parts, little bit of growling.

Start with "The Number of the Beast" The most famous and essential release, if he likes that then "Piece of Mind" and "Powerslave" albums in the same vain. I also recommend "Somewhere in Time" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" these albums see the group move away from their traditional HM sound to something more synth influenced (Very much keeping in with the times around the mid 80`s as DEF Leppard and Van Halen had already gone in this direction)

Another good place to start is their debut album which is a classic, but its with a different singer Paul DÀnno and its very punk influenced.

Five Finger Death Punch are an excellent band!! and their new album is worth a listen, it varies from heavy to soft metal with a lovely instramental track inbetween. Never enough and the bleeding were the tracks that got me hooked!

Everyone should listen to them!
