Alright I'm a noob metalhead right now, but I really want to get into some GOOD music. I really like Metallica and Escape The Fate and I recently heard some Opeth so if anyone wants to recommend me some Opeth?
I really like hard, dangerous riffs. Probably more instrumental than singing. I like growling and screaming better, but I HATE screamo/bands with guys who have pop voices and scream. I don't really like scratchy deep voices, I don't really know how to explain that, which is why I lean towards older rock. Any recommendations? |

All of the above are pretty mainstream and theirs a whole load of more obscure or experimental sounding stuff you could get into as well. Another band to look at would be the Melvins a sludge and experimental metal band that were hugely influential on grunge back in the day. Finally Opeth, do you just like the death metal stuff of the mellower stuff they often do? |

I would start with "The Gallery" one of the essential early melodic death metal records and then its follow up album "The Minds I" then listen to "Damage Done" probably my favourite Dark Tranquillity album. If you like these then listen to the rest of the stuff. The only album I don`t like is "Projector" as singer Mikael Stanne changed his vocal style to a more operatic baritone style and it sucks.
