Have you looked into King Crimson?
Tool owe very, very much to them.
THRAK, The ConstruKction Of Light and The Power To Believe are their more modern albums with probably the highest similarities to Tool.

The rest of the year looks good also with releases due for Lamb Of God, Iron Maiden, Motorhead and a plethora more, but it will take something special to top this number one entry.
