Yeah, I also think some of Sigh's stuff would be widely enjoyed by many people if they were even better known, but there are some people that do dislike them like Black Metal Purists (people who can't stand other genres mixed with Black Metal or avant-garde experimentation in Black Metal) as well as people who will disregard any band with harsh vocals or won't even give Metal a try. Though Gallows Gallery doesn't have any harsh vocals on the main album, (I think one or two bonus tracks do have harsh vocals,) but the vocals on Gallows Gallery aren't exactly standard Rock/Metal style vocals so there's always a chance someone would find them off-putting, but I personally love every single one of Sigh's albums. Here're some more recommendations. Also, if possible, it might help me get an idea on what to recommend to you next if you provide feedback on what bands/albums that I've recommended to you that you've enjoyed the most. Melechesh is a good Blackened Thrash Metal band with Sumerian/Mesopotamian/Middle-eastern Folk influences, try out their albums Sphynx, and Emissaries. Absu is also pretty similar in style to Melechesh in them being Blackened Thrash Metal with Folk influences, but they also have some Celtic Folk influenced albums along with Mesopotamian and other folk influences. They deem themselves "Mythological Occult Metal." A few albums of their's worth checking out is Abzu; which is a very fast intense album of theirs, Absu; which is pretty atmospheric and a little more varied, but still with a Blackened Thrash Metal sound, and Tara; their probably most critically acclaimed album. The Third Storm of Cythraul is a good album if you're in for a kinda low-fi Blackened Thrash Metal mood as its production brings a good/raw atmosphere. All of Absu's albums are worth checking out, though. Also check out the band Gire, they're an interesting Avant-garde Death Metal band that only released one LP in 2007 that's self-titled. They add interesting electronic and folk music to their Extreme Metal sound in a way that's very tactfully executed. The keyboardist in the band is also the leader/head of the band Thy Catafalque which also makes some good Avant-garde Extreme Metal/Black Metal. The three Thy Catafalque albums I'd recommend the most are Microcosmos, Sublunary Tragedies, Tuno Ido Tarlat. Also, I'm a little bit confused by your mention of Blind Guardian's albums' titles sort of in a mashed together way, because they have one album titled Somewhere Far Beyond that was released in 1992, and Imaginations From the Other Side that was released in 1995, so I'm just a little confused on if you listened to both those albums, just one of them, or something else. No worries though, I'm just glad you're enjoying them. |

I meant Blind Guardian's Somewhere Far Beyond. Somehow their albums got messed up in my notes.. I guess I was pretty excited to get some good Metal recommendations. Anyways, I'm really bad at picking favorites, and writing about these on an album by album basis seems like a bad idea as well, so I'll just list what I thought was lack luster.. The Thrash Metal bands like Overkill, Vektor, Testament, Artillery, and Kreator were alright but I have a harder time enjoying Thrash anyways, I'll give them another listening to and see if I change my mind. A few of the Black Metal bands were harder to listen to, mostly the ones with vocal styles I hadn't heard before, or ones with slow repetitious styles: Gorgoroth, Demilich, Ulver, and Necrophagia. I liked pretty much everything else, but I can't really pick any favorites without giving their albums a second listen to! Generally speaking, I like faster stuff, and I like slower stuff when it has alot of substance.
I'm not sure but I think I've heard of Melechesh before.. hmm. I think you called them and Absu Thrash, but they're the only Thrash that you listed that I've really liked so far. Maybe its because it has Black Metal mixed in. |

I've kinda been debating internally whether to even really call Melechesh or Absu Blackened Thrash Metal because it puts more emphasis on the Thrash aspect, when I really see them more as energetic aggressive Black Metal bands with high technical skill. I guess I'd probably feel better with a label like Thrashing Black Metal to be honest.
For some new recommendations try out Ænigma by In Vain, No World Order by Gamma Ray, Temple of Shadows by Angra, The Serpent's Manifolds by Transcending Bizarre?, Theogonia by Rotting Christ, Wintersun by Wintersun, Time I by Wintersun, Those Once Loyal by Bolt Thrower, Surgical Steel by Carcass, Mare Nostrum by Stormlord, and Kraft by Vreid. I'm curious what songs you've listened to from those 5 thrash metal bands because some of their stuff is quite fast and even melodic, but I know those bands have also released some fairly weak albums, and I hadn't recommended anything specifically from them, so try out (if you haven't already) the albums The Electric Age by Overkill, By Inheritance by Artillery, and the songs "True American Hate", "Electric Crown", "Souls of Black", and "Alone in the Dark" by Testament. Plus the two Vektor songs "Tetrastructural Minds" and "Cosmic Cortex. |

I like the bands but theres something about the musical composition of Thrash that just grates on me. Its hard to explain (and I'm bad at explaining why I like or dislike something to begin with), but I think its more the rhythm of the guitarists and bass than whether its melodic. The instruments keeps roughly the same rhythmic pace for the entire album, with a few breaks that speed up or slow down. Some of these also have random slow atmospheric parts which I honestly think don't add anything to the album as a whole. Maybe I've just listened to way too much Thrash lately! Although maybe I just dislike something inherent to the genre. I heard someone say that if you like Jazz or Classical you'll probably like Power Metal, and if you like slower Rock you'll like Thrash, and I really don't like slow Rock! So at some point I'll listen to all the Thrash you recommended back to back and see if I can't break through my natural dislike of Thrash. These are more enjoyable than most of the Thrash I've listen to though.
I'm used to listening to Metal like Galneryus - The Ironhearted Flag. The number of tempo changes in this is absurd. Not to mention the number of amazing guitar solos (or instrumentals), personally I love their ascent but some people don't as a word of warning. (Don't take terms like tempos, rhythm, pacing and other terms as if I actually know what they mean. I'm just trying to describe what I'm hearing and failing ^^) Honestly though I can't explain why I like one thing over another except in broad concepts. There have been songs that I can objectively tell are very similar to eachother, but I'll love one and hate the other. Its weird that I typically like Death Metal and Black Metal more than I like Thrash though. They do everything I can identify in Thrash that I don't like. I liked Overkill. Probably because they are playing really fast. I also liked Transcending Bizarre?, Carcass, and Stormlord. Bolt Thrower is nice but hard to listen to. Thanks for the recs! Edit: I meant The Ironhearted Flag Vol. 2. Not that Vol. 1 is bad or anything, I think every Galneryus album is amazing actually. Last edited by Imakandi; 02-16-2015 at 11:43 AM. |

The only rock I listen to is christian rock. The music you listen is very popular in rock stations in last.fm, so you can check that out.

Rock's too wide a genre to suggest bands. You could end up being into heavy metal, post rock, punk rock, indie, progressive rock ... there are literally hundreds of subgenres in rock. Depends on what you want to hear: loud, aggressive, intricate, calm, ambient, soft, catchy, depressing, morose, angsty, happy, dreamy...
