Some of these bands have careers that extend a ways back, but check out:

Queens of the stone age
Eagles of death metal
Wolfmother
The strokes
Interpol
The kills
The black keys

Listen to mainly Kansas and Yes in the prog rock department, since I'm a little picky when it comes to the musicality of a group, and both of them have made some excessively spectacular music which I absolutely love. Hoping to find more bands like them that can both dish out emotional music, while at the same time, having a ton of talent.

My go-to prog recommendation is Supertramp. You familiar with them?

I think I've heard the name in the past, I'll take a quick listen to see if I like em.

Try the songs "Fool's Overture" and "Rudy" to start.

Can't fail with that one.

Can't fail, Carl!

I took a listen, but I can't seem to get into their groove. I'll try an extended listening session to a full album of theirs tomorrow, and do some reading up on what the band is like. I'm a sucker for very raw sounding music, and experimental stuff, like time signatures, chord changes, and all kinds of messing around with the limits of the instruments a musician plays.
