If you like Nirvana then you should like the other of the big four grunge bands, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and maybe a few other grunge bands, Temple of the Dog and Mother Love Bone are both very good.

If you like Buckethead then I recommend Steve Vai, The Infinite Steve Vai: An Anthology is the best way to start but otherwise get Fire Garden.

If you like Dream Theater than you should like Vanishing Point, start with Embrace the Silence, you should also like Pain of Salvation (one of my favourite bands ever) and Symphony X. For PoS start with Remedy Lane or The Perfect Element Part 1 and Symphony X start with Paradise Lost.

You gotta give ELP a spin. "Brain Salad Surgery" is as dark and nasty as 70's prog got. "Trilogy" is slightly less muscular, but equally brilliant. You may want to consider one of the many remastered comps. that are out there, but make sure you get one with a full length version of "Tarkus".

A good place to start would probably be King Crimson`s "In the Court of the Crimson King" A definitive prog album that is quite easy to listen too and absorb.

I really like your list, similar taste.
As somebody here said, you really should try Pain Of Salvation and Symphony X, you may like them... I definitelly love them.
My favourite (progressive) rock/metal band is Riverside, Anathema and Katatonia.
If you are open for combination of more styles (rock, metal, ambient, some pop-rock melodies) you should try Porcupine Tree. I love it, it's combination of everything what I need.

King Crimson is really good start!
My start was with Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here), Marillion (Misplaced Childhood - I know, it's 1985) and Yes (The Yes Album). It was probably good start because I love prog now

I have a question too...

Does somebody know some good metal band with german lyrics and singing?
I think german language fits to metal very well but I wasn't lucky to find some band yet.
I am not so much into death metal and growl, rather progressive metal or some heavy metal with clear singing. My taste is something like Opeth, Anathema, Katatonia, Pain of Salvation.
If you don't know german band, some english or some other languages are welcome too.
Thank you.

Good german metal bands:
(band - album)
Accept - I'm a Rebel
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Sodom - Persecution Mania

etc...

Of course, there's always Tom Angelripper's solo material.
