Always a tough choice, but I was listening to Tool long before A Perfect Circle so they win by seniority.

I love it how these bands are always compared, as if they are sister bands or something. News: they are not! The only thing either band share in common in MJK being the lead singer. Aside from all that, the essential element of APC's sound is Billy Howerdel's production, not Keenan's input. Similarly, neither is Keenan's input responsible for Tool's core sound. He's not an instrumentalist or a production whizz. He's a vocalist, melodist and lyricist.

I find it humorous how Keenan is made out as the be-all-and-end-all of any project he's in. It's really the only reason that Tool and APC are compared. Because, aside from Keenan, they have absolutely nothing in common.

Anyway, Tool wins this one. APC is the absolute most boring pile of generic crap I've ever heard. Actually, the APC project highlights just how much Keenan is in need of a proper songwriting team working in conjunction with him in order to come up with anything remotely worthwhile.

The only reason why I compare them is for that simple fact alone, MJK. I dont agree with you on the fact that APC is the most boring pile of generic crap youve ever heard, weather you like them or not theyre certainly not THE WORSTE, I can think of alot of bands that are worse than APC, lol. I do agree with you however that Keenans lyrics for APC could use some work, I dont hate them, a few of the songs I think have great lyrics, a few, but I like their sound regardless. Tool IS far better, I dont tend to like when a good bands lead singer goes off and does a side project with some other guys because IMO it never turns out as good as the first band they were in, anyways thats my .02.
