However, Sad But True stands out for me. It's still a staple in live sets and I always look forward to that one.
What is it that stands out about it for you?

I'm actually a little surprised for that track to be the one to single out. I guess for me it was always one of the stand out tracks on the record. When performed live those opening riffs just sound insanely heavy, I'd say it was a good vocal delivery as well, and Lars drumming may be a little unimaginative but thats case a lot of the time. It probably has a lot to do with the fact I like most of my metal down tempo and sluggish and Sad But True just kinds of sludges along.

I haven't heard the Black album for years to be fair. I used to have it on cassette but I don't even think I have that anymore!

Heh. Good point about Lars' drumming. He almost ruins "Damage Inc" which I think is otherwise one of their best songs.

I guess this is where we just differ on our preferences with metal because I generally like my metal fast. Some bands do the slow and sluggish thing really well, but I don't think Metallica is one of them.

I have to say this thread has gotten me to listen to a bunch of my Metallica albums today. I'm listening to Master of Puppets right now and man I kind of forgot what a great song "Fade to Black" is.
