death magnetic is ok, sometimes its given to little credit and sometimes to much, all nightmare long does kick @$$ though

Dimebagblues22 03-03-2009 09:32 AM

I never really listened to the whole death magnetic album. I dunno, I like their older stuff better.

I think I'm among the few who think their 90's stuff when they "sold out" is their best work. I like some older stuff, but bang the drums as fast as you can has never appealed to me as much as melody.

ew their stuff from the 90s is like the black album and load.

Which are badass.

The solo in enter sandman is still mindblowing. And the riff on load, explain to me how they aren't better than Motorhead?

/waits

i didnt say they arent better than motor head im just saying their stuff from the 80s is better, MoP, ride the lightning, kill em all. load is horrible compared to those, black album isnt great besides for of wolf and man, sad but true and nothing else matters, enter sandman is VERY OVERPLAYED and VERY OVERRATED.

I love the Black Album and I have to say I think of people who prefer the 80s stuff (that's stated to many times by so many people, it feels like it's the norm) just wanna be cool by dissing what's most popular .. which is ironic since that opinion itself is kind of conformist. Sorry if that's not you, it's just a general suspicion I have.

Anyways, I like the change in sound they had on the black album and I disagree that "Of Wolf and Man" is the only good thing about it. However, I will agree that it's overplayed, but I don't think that necessarily corrupts the quality.

pahuuuta 03-04-2009 08:40 AM

im not saying that either, i think older stuff is for more for people that listen to heavier music a lot, black album is more calm as in MoP is a headbangers ball, but all the people at my school that listen to Metallica prefer 80s instead of 90s, and you cant have that suspicion of us because 90s isnt popular around here, or from my school as you could say.

The Black Album is a tight record. It was also a huge shift in sound from the four albums that came before it. Bands changing their sound is not a bad thing, its just going to alienate a lot of their fan base. The Black Album is a great record, i just dont think its a great metal record. Load is decent in places but a little mediocre, Reload again has a few tracks on it I like but very middle of the road.

I much prefer Metallica's 80's stuff and I don't just say that to conform or to "be cool", I just think Metallica made music to give a crap about in the 80's and then it all got a little too bland, even though it wasnt completely without some plus points.

I do understand what you said to a degree though, I can imagine a lot of people will tell you 80's Tallica stuff is where its at before they have even formed their own opinion of their 90's stuff. And they will say that because thats what everyone else says.

Guybrush 03-04-2009 09:11 AM

Just for the record, I (also) like 80s Metallica and up to and including The Black Album .. I'm not very familiar with the stuff that came after, though, except for what you hear on the radio.
