The Metallica - Glastonbury "controversy" is pathetic. It's winding me right up.
The guy from Mogwai there in that article doesn't like Metallica. This is a valid opinion. Metallica "not being a good fit" for Glastonbury however, or proving to be a "controversial" choice, or "not very Glastonbury" is ****ing weak. Glastonbury is known for being a varied, eclectic yet mainstream festival. Metallica have sold over 100m records. End of discussion. If you dont wanna watch them, go watch someone else. On a separate note, I happened to watch Metallica streaming live from Rock Am Ring tonight, playing a fan choice setlist. Fans voted for the setlist. They played St. Anger. I hate people. |

The idea of a fan chosen setlist is pretty dumb anyway. The normal setlist is going to be based on fan favorites anyway, so what's the point? It's gonna be pretty much the same show either way. Just sounds like a cheap way to make people see them as a "people's band".

The fan chosen setlist was pretty cool actually, or so I thought. It did unearth a few tracks they dont play often. Earlier in the tour it also produced Frayed Ends of Sanity, which they have never played live.

OF ALL THE ****ING LOUSY....whatever, I could care less about a concert. The fans who chose that song should be shot though IMO. I mean I'm one of the people who thinks that album isn't that bad, but the set list should be 90% songs from their first three albums, and this is more like 2/3.

Just my opinion...I think Metallica is a great band, but upset a few people when they went mainstream. No doubt, from Kill 'Em All through ...And Justice For All are some of the best metal out there, but after that, say from the Black album on, they softened quit a bit. Most bands seem to do that, though. It is a bad disease that goes around from group to group.

2. Also, they did not soften that much. "Frantic" from St. Anger is probably their most aggressive song I've heard. The song is garbage, and I could have written better lyrics than what they came up with, but it's still really aggressive IMO. |

If you watch Some Kind of Monster you get to see them throwing around ideas in the studio, and it was Kirk Hammett who came up with "My life still determines my death style." It's one of my favorite moments cause right after Kirk says that line out loud to the rest of the band the camera cuts to Lars, who's just got this really condescending "Uh... yeah..." expression on his face. I imagine they let him contribute a few lyrics to make him feel better about not having any solos.
