Im a pretty big fan of Metallica. My favourite Metallica albums are Master of Puppets, Kill Em All and Death Magnetic. But that Lulu album that they've released a while back in collaboration with Lou Reed....well, that is just terrible album. If only james was singing instead of Lou reed, it would've been a much better album.

This is what it reads for him on the credits page of Allmusic.com for St. Anger: Bass, Unknown Contributor Role. I recall he was in the DVD part of the 2-disc CD doing each song. I just thought that Bob Rock did the stand in bass as the band were putting things together then when they did the record it was the new guy who actually played on the album. That was just my assumption, though.

Is that the Mechanix you are talking about? I think that Mechanix is a poor man's Mechanix. Metallica might have ripped the chords, but they did not rip those lyrics. And I've read somewhere here that Metallica's lyrics were bad.

The following is what I wrote in the "Official Metallica Thread" about my favorite band:

James Hetfield is no longer a thrash singer in my eyes/ears. In my opinion when they did the Black Album and Load that was a step in the right direction as Hetfield's voice has matured into something other than thrash metal allows. I happen to enjoy both Load and reLoad. For what the sound was, it was good. I don't really care that they went onto making different styles in sound because it fit them very well. Back then they saw clearly that they weren't doing thrash any justice anymore because of maturing vocal cords. But now they're surrendering to their fan's wishes and not thinking about themselves, only their pocket books, which is fine because we can still listen to their back catalog.

Metallica is my favorite band. Kill 'em All is my favorite album ever, of any album. My 2nd favorite album is Ride the Lightening. And just so you know, my 3rd favorite album is the Best of the Runaways (The Millennium edition), 4th Nude and Rude the Best of Iggy Pop. And my 5th favorite album, this'll get a laugh and plenty of ridicule but so what? Ropin' the Wind by Garth Brooks.

Edit... This copied and pasted post was way back in 2010, so I don't know if the Garth Brooks album is currently my 5th favorite. Steve Earle's Copperhead Road might have taken its place. I don't know...

As I said my favorite band is Metallica, I just thought I'd add that AC/DC is my 2nd; 3rd is the Runaways; 4th, Kiss; 5th, Motorhead.

Edit... Motorhead has taken the number two spot since then. But I'm pretty sure that Kiss may still be on there somewhere...

I've never listened to St. Anger. I listened to bits and pieces at a CD Warehouse and didn't care for what I heard. After Ride the Lightning I most like ...And Justice for all, Black album, then Master of Puppets, Load and reLoad. Garage Days Inc was good. Haven't heard most of S&M for lack of interest but I will likely end up listening to all of them sooner or later, funds provided.

Edit... Have now listened to St. Anger. It's not as horrible as I thought it might be, but it isn't none too good, either. S&M? I think I gave it a spin, but I cannot recall. It might be just that forgettable...?

Death Magnetic? Hmm. This'll get a bigger bunch of laughter and disdain but here it is: they would sound better doing country (which idea made me cringe as a teenager nearly ten years ago). Or at least try being a bar band again like what I heard in Load. The bunch of them on the back of that CD just reeked of bar/rock band, in a good way, similar to AC/DC. I watched That Metal Show and the hosts on that show say that Death Magnetic is where they should have gone after ...And Justice. Jim Florentine made me laugh in disgust when he said that. If the newest album was eintirely instrumental it would have worked alot better - someone here said that if the times called for it...well, I think it's now time. Or if James just decided to skip being singer and just went with what now seems to suit him more, being guitarist.

Lyrics like "What don't kill ya make ya more strong" make me wish they'd have gone instrumetal all the way. I usually would rather lyrics/singing in all songs, but James' lyrics and singing just doesn't work for me any longer when it comes to metal. And that lyric sounds like he got a kid to remember the quote from Nietzsche. It might actually have been a half way decent song, even with Hetfield's voice, if they didn't make it sound like a kindergartener (James' son, maybe?) wrote it. "Love is a 4 letter word"..."this I swear! This I swear!" All lousy song writing. At least they can admit that they made the word 'love' into a swear word

That's all I've got for now.

Edit...

I forgot my opinion on Master of Puppets' popularity: Although I love the album like a father might love every one of his offspring (best analogy I could come up with, sorry), I find it overrated as most everyone's favorite. I just don't get that, because I find that Ride the Lightning is far heavier, and Kill 'em All was far heavier than RtL. That's all.

I'm a huge Metalli***, but I refuse to listen to Lulu. I will not listen to that album until I'm ready to be dissapointed as hell.

Gunnels, you don't know how much I appreciate you listening to that. Since it was immediately followed up by abject hatred - and thats incredibly easy to "lawl" at - this awesome sound mash-up was almost lost to the depths of MB.

Everyone else can go back to beating the dead horse now. Carry on.

It wasn't lost on me. I thought it was the best thing I've heard with Metallica written on it since about 1987.

Oh, you think he's being sincere, and then BAM! Metallica hate to your kidneys.
