I remember the anticipation like it was yesterday. My good friend bought it same day. I hopped on my bike and headed by for a listen. We threw it on and looked at each other like WTF is this crap. I wanted to stab my ears with hand grenades.

Its just the sort of album that appeals to conservative rock fans, the type that listen to U2, Dire Straits and Genesis. In fact it was the perfect album for the coffee-table type rock fan, polished and easy to listen to, but without upsetting the digestion

Compared to old Metallica, it isn't very good. But as a standalone rock album, it is fairly effective at what it is shooting for. Much more so than Load and Reload.
