I like Kill Em All a good deal.

If an individual dislikes Metallica and can back it up with a constructive argument and/or reasons for that then I have no problem. However I cannot begin to describe how much I hate certain people who hate Metallica because of a) solely how much of a **** Lars Ulrich is, b) the whole Napster debate, c) their work after ...Justice For All or d) "selling out".
The fact that they have put out certainly underwhelming or disappointing material since AJFA doesnt change the fact they had 4 pretty solid records before that. That is of course based on the belief that you USED to like Metallica, and you USED to like their earlier material that is now for some reason completely irrelevant. I think they get a lot more stick than they deserve too. On the other hand there are certain people out there to whom Metallica are the beginning, the middle and the end. These people will buy every piece of overpriced Metallica merchandise and ignore the existence of any other heavy metal band. These people are just as much to blame. |
I'm pretty much indifferent to rabid Metallica haters and rabid Metallica fanboys alike. I've never been one to let other people color my opinion on a band.
I enjoy the early albums a lot. For some reason I never looked into Death Magnetic. |

Kill Em All is my favourite too. Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets may be musically better albums? Depends which way you look at it. Kill Em All's dirtier, messier and the more enjoyable for me.

Plus the Napster debate was always ridiculous, if you're a musician with that much marketing power you are going to protect your interests, and it was all in vain anyway because the industry is dying on it's arse |
I didnt claim Lars Ulrich was a **** rather just that it is a fairly popular opinion although I must admit I do share that opinion. Theres always ego's in music but Lars' is huge and he just doesnt quite back his up I think. Its been debated on here before whether he's a bad drummer or just has an unusual technique but either way he's just a little too arrogant and ****y for my liking. On the other hand he has contributed a lot to what Metallica are and have been in the past.
I never understood the backlash to the Napster lawsuit either. I've made my opinion fairly clear on this site before when it comes to that at the expense of Adidass and what I didnt realise at the time was a 4 year old rant :bonkhead:. It was a fairly hotheaded response in retrospect but the footage of all of those Metallica "fans" burning albums because of it? Thats just pathetic, plus it really doesnt make any sense because in essence all they were doing were burning money from their own pocket that is now in the pockets of the band they were protesting against. They really showed them! |
