Well not directly the sole culprit, but it was the first micro-retailer for music, allowing for legal downloads when every single-interface program was being shut down.

The impact of figures alone, in my opinion, isn't giving you the whole story.

you guys can blame itunes or downloading all day long, and i'll still think this guy's opinion makes more sense:
demonbaby: When Pigs Fly: The Death of Oink, the Birth of Dissent, and a Brief History of Record Industry Suicide.

it's a long read, but worth it

today i heard Load by metallica for the first time and i dont understand why people hate this album?
i know its not the style of Metallica, but if u ignore the fact that this album is by Metallica you will love it.
so what do you think about this great album?

i love Load ... maybe the cover plays a big role in it also.
i do love all Metallica albums till Reload. I don't know what they tried to do afterwards.

Personally I think Load is one of their best albums as a band and I think their decision to make a bluesy sounding hard rock album as a opposed to a heavy metal one quite a bold move. Also the album has Bob Rock`s signature all over it.

Saying that though, I didn`t enjoy ReLoad that much as it just sounded like the left over songs from Load.

Load was a pretty decent record, but it picked up where the Black Album left off in terms of veering away from the more thrash orientated sound they had adopted previously. That has a lot to do with why it's criticised. It's a departure just like the Black Album but without any really big anthems and singles.

It's a decent record, but it's just not up to the standard of their first 3 or 4 records in my opinion.

since it isn't a thrash album I wouldn't imagine it could stack up.

Conversly, Ride the Lightning is a **** rock record compared to Load.
