A question that was posed to me about Metallica: Are you bothered more by the Napster stuff, the quality of the new music or neither at all?

It seemed pretty unanamous in the 'do you care if a musician is a ****' that it was the music not the personality of the musician that mattered, but it seems that applys to nearly all artists except Metallica.

I've made it clear on this forum before that I'm not exactly a fan of Lars' drumming but I'd be more inclined to give him props for innovation than talent if i was gonna give him props for anything. I'm not a drummer so take from that what you will but his technique is certainly...interesting.

I'd bet money the same kids will lament the downfall of newspapers, which is what lars was complaining about, albeit for music. I don't agree with him, all figures and sales show that downloads actually increase sales. But I wouldn't say he was being greedy when he did that. Napster at its outset probably did drop sales exponentially. The issue there was you were looking at artists who were being picked up on a sound-alike basis and that probably didn't have albums strong enough to warrant sales. Music fans are such stupid bastards in general (what other medium has a phrase as stupid as "music is my boyfriend") that you're never allowed to touch the sacred cow. Zappa and Snider went to congress, but I guess that was ok since they were keeping music the way it was. When Lars goes to Congress to keep music the way it was theres holy hell. People are just pissed because they thought he was trying to take away their free ****.

I'm neither bothered by the Napster stuff (it's way beyond time to get over it) nor the perceived quality of their music... I actually enjoy St. Anger and Death Magnetic immensely, although I am by no means a hardcore fan... I honestly think they are a bit unfairly knocked around by fans and their perceptions/ideas.
