Glad to know im not the only one who thinks that.
You think that because their catalouge began in the mid-90's should disqualify them from this thred? Even though they have put out 5 top notch, full length albums post 2000? |

Yes, because they are a 90's band and therefore more suited to a thread made to discuss 90's metal bands. They may have continued to release records into the 00's but by that logic we could start a thread dedicated to 80's rock bands and put The Rolling Stones in it.

I guess it all depends on your stance on 'what makes a band be defined to a decade', is it when they were formedm or when they were at their peak? |

Well, whether the Stones were at their peak in the 60's 70's or 80's is all down to individual opinion. Of course, with The Stones I doubt you will find many who would prefer 80's Stones to 60's Stones.
My point lies however in the abundance of threads on this site and the original intent of the thread by the original poster. For me, Opeths records since 2000 would be certainly valid in a thread about the best metal albums of the decade, rather than bands. A band can peak later in their career for sure but when your first record was 1995 and you had 4 by 1999 then that was the decade that the band was established. |

It's really not that important but I have to admit it's something that's been bugging me with some of the replies in this thread. Thats down to me of course that **** like that would bug me, it just does. You will notice that a lot of people have mentioned Opeth in their replies.
It says in the first post that this thread is for bands of the last decade ie 2000 onwards. Not albums but bands. Opeth were established before 2000. Established being the key word in that sentence. Regardless of whether an individual prefers their 90's stuff or their stuff post 2000 I think its hard pushed to claim that a band with 4 albums in the 90's and 5 in the 00's would be considered a band of the current decade rather than the past. I think grey areas only start to appear where a band releases a debut record toward the very end of a decade, especially if they then go on to greater commercial success in the following decade. Opeth may be more commercially successful now but 4 albums between 95 and 99 establish them as a band of the 90's and therefore eligible for discussion in a thread about 90's metal bands. There probably isnt one, but you get the picture. |

i haven't been on my computer over the last while so i've missed checking up on this site. just to clarify the intent of this thread, it was done specifically for new bands coming out in this decade. i'm always on the hunt for new music and i'm sure there are lots of people on this site who come across and new band that is actually good.
i find a lot of threads on here when talking about good metal, best metal album, or what's some good metal songs all revert back to some old metal band of the 70's or 80's and yes i'll agree that a lot of original great bands came out back then but there are still new bands that come out that put out some great stuff. maybe not groundbreaking but good music. more or less i wanted to keep out the obvious bands and look more at metal today and what bands are coming out. i'm not going to jump all over someone who puts a band that came out in the late 90's but try and keep this thread to modern metal bands. the genre doesn't matter as long as it is metal. my personal favorites of metal genres are melodic death/death/metalcore/folk. but again this thread's intent was for discussion of newer metal bands from this decade. |
