Bride - Snakes in the Playground
I was just going through my cd collection the other day and threw this album in as i haven't heard it in a long time and i have to admit i was rockin' out to it. I was wondering what other people's opinion of this album are. it as released in '92 i believe. i tried to find a link for it but i couldn't find anywhere that you could listen to for free and i'm at work so there are some sites i can't get into.
I got this album when i was 14 or 15. my parent were religious and them and a couple other people were trying to get me into christian rock music a lot and they ended up giving me this cd. this was the first christian band at that time that i actually thought was good. they are a little preachy in their lyrics but dale thompson has a killer voice and they got some good riffs as well. at the time i thought is was a superb album, as far as christian bands go, and was one of my favorites for a while until i lost interest in them. a little history on the band, from what i know anyways. for comparison they pretty much are the christian version of G 'N' R. I followed the band for a little while but they were a pretty trendy band and went all sorts of directions with their music, mainly following whatever was popular at the time. i got 'kinetic faith', their album before 'snakes' and it was not bad definitely not as good. and anything i heard of their older stuff, i believe they started in the early 80's, was mainly hard rock and not that interesting. their follow up release 'scarecrow messiah' followed the same pattern as snakes but the only song i recall as being great on that album was the title track. after that i started losing interest. with their next release 'drop' they completely changed direction and from what i remember it was more an alternative album. they then came back with a couple more albums that ranged from alternative/grunge/rapcore. horrible stuff really. their last release in 2006 'skin for skin' i'm actually interested in hearing. they polled their fans for what type of album they were looking for and supposedly it came out with going back to their 'snakes in the playground' days and being their heaviest album released. i haven't heard it yet so i can't speak for it would be interesting in hearing what people think if they have heard it. anyways, if you got some spare time and can give 'snakes in the playground' a listen, if you can find it, let me know what you think. if your a fan of bride and have an opinion or comment feel free. let's see what some of you music gerus have to say as well as anyone who is interested. |
