Billy Thorpe went to the same high school as me. He was about 4 or 5 years older and had left school to a successful career in rock and roll. A few years after he offered a free gig to the students but the fascist principle rejected him as his hair was "too long and all musicians are drug addicts" This was in the early 70's. Queensland, Australia was full of absolute weirdo right wing fascist's back then and that High School principle was one of them. A bloke I worked with married the principle's daughter, so I found out many years later, and when I told him that story he laughed and said that his wife disliked her father and even in retirement he was still a fascist and carried on about long hair.
