Those pictures of Immortal up there are brilliant I have to say ..

Black metallers sure know how to dress up.

What do you base that statement on?

I just saw the norwegian grammy show (spellemannsprisen) a couple of days ago and it had some black metal band playing in it alongside other pop acts. It's been like that for years, it's roughly become just another genre here.

And I don't see how looking like you've dedicated yourself to a life of Dungeons and Dragons or Vampire: The Masquerade live roleplaying really makes you evil.

While I don't agree with Dr. Psycho, I don't think you're correct either. I can't tell you about folk metal and goth but you are right about doom being better in Europe. But, death metal? Since pretty much forever? I don't think so. I mean the New York scene, the San Fran death/thrash, and the Florida scene are obviously famous dm scenes in the US, and then you also have tons of bands scattered throughout the country, but in the early days of death metal, Europe is at least on par with the US. Of course the US had Possessed, Death, Morpheus Descends, and Necrophagia, but Sweden had Nihilist, Carnage, Dismember, Unleashed, and Entombed alone. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but, in the beginning, dm had awesome showings in both areas.

Today, it's really unclear. Sweden has bands like Kaamos and Necrovation, while the US holds bands like Arghoslent and Deathevokation. While obviously these aren't the only good bands in each scene, both scenes are dishing out quality dm, even if both areas contain mostly garbage. It also depends on if you're a fan of the brutal dm thats becoming so prominent in the US's scene...

I shall be moving to Norway momentarily.

In the thread you should make about not liking black metal,so you don't have to come in here and annoy black metal fans

I signed up when I saw how poorly the usbm scene was represented in this this thread. Obviously the Norse scene is far more prominent, with a scope of influence reaching all corners of the globe. However, there are some gems from the US scene that are not to be missed. Particularly, look into Grand Belial's Key, Demoncy, Judas Iscariot, Fog, Abazagorath, to name but a few. **** all that limp-wristed "suicidal" bull**** mixed with poorly thought out psuedo-ambient that we've some how come to be known for.

As an aside, be sure to look into the Czech scene (Root, Master's Hammer) and the Greek scene (Necromantia, Rotting Christ, Varathron) to hear some highly original takes on BM.
