They write their songs to appeal to the #1 spot on Itunes. They write their songs for cash plain and simple. Maybe not all of them suck. But if the majority do then you write mostly bad music.

I think perhaps Nickleback is just a bunch of guys who genuinely enjoy making music and putting on shows. They got into for the fun, stayed for the cash. I have a severe dislike of the music they make but I guess you can't hate the guys.

About the only thing that ever comes to mind when listening to a Nickleback song is GODDAMNIT. I'm still peeved that Jerry Cantrell OPENED for them. What a ****ing ass-backwards lineup. Something positive to take into account, though, about Nickleback is that the money Roadrunner gets through Nickleback is what helps bands like Opeth and Dream Theater. Still, though, that's the only positive thing I could come up with, and even so, I'd prefer any shortcomings from Opeth or Deam Theater if we could just do away with Nickleback.
By the way, this is not a personal attack on anyone's taste in music or favorite band (if it happens to be Nickleback). Just some opinions. |

I've found in my experience that people who are Nickelback fans either aren't familiar with the criticisms of the band (They are still plugged in if you get the Matrix reference) or they just choose to ignore the people who complain about them, much like I ignore the people who actively try and tell me the band is good.
To me they are like every other overhyped band, every two or three years they come together, re-write three of their old singles, then do some crappy filler songs about fighting in a bar or whatever. They don't make albums, they make singles and they know it. I do feel your pain though about seeing someone incredibly talented opening for someone who's talent is questionable at best. One of the only rap rock bands that I like, Rehab, opened for Linkin' Park of all people. |

Eeeesch, Linkin' Park. Rehab, I like. I discovered them in high school, and now, all of a sudden their blowin' up with "Sittin' at Bar", which isn't their best at all. I'm not surprised though. Mainstream media will suck the life out of anything.

In my opinion "More Like You" was the strongest song off their debut "Southern Discomfort" |
