THey were the 'biggest act' in grunge but not necessarily the best. 9/10 I always find that the supposed 'best' artist or 'best' album never really rings true. I believe that most of it is just hype but of course im biased because I aint really that keen on Nirvana. I like a couple of tracks 'About A Girl' & 'Something In The Way'.

You need to listen to In Utero and Incesticide. I've always said they were more of a punk band than a grunge band, but if you are going to call them "grunge" then atleast catagorize which albums of theirs were grunge albums. Namely Bleach and a couple of tracks on Nevermind... without comparing them to other big "grunge" acts of the time like Pearl Jam or Alice in Chains, as I wouldn't consider them to nessiscarily be grunge either. In my mind, the true grunge movement never really broke into the mainstream.
But hey I'm just some random 40 year old guy on the internet.. I could be wrong Edit: And don't get me wrong I like all of the aformentioned bands. |

Also I have a bone to pick with all of you here for not mentioning Soundgarden! Chris Cornell was by far the best vocalist on the grunge scene and IMO the best vocalist (not to my taste in particular) but just in terms of sheer power and range especially. Soundgarden were the first grunge band to be signed to a major label but Nirvana & co were the ones who popularized it and paved the way for Soundgarden into the mainstream but it aint about whats in mainstream uno they were always a great band before and I still like Chris Cornells solo stuff. But I do appreciate your opinion in that you have obviously sat down and listened to all the main grunge bands and then heard a smaller profile one and made your own decision and I respect that. |
