You don't even know what the original discussion was about, so why try getting involved?

The original quote was in regards to Nickelback being put in the 'pop music' section of the forum, Urban then moved it to the Rock section, when asked why, Urban replied 'Because its rock music, being popular doesn't make it pop', and then he used the comparisons of Miles and Black Sabbath, who are both very popular.

If this other poster got his way, both of these artists would be in the pop section, simply because they are popular which is blatantly wrong. Surrell nor anyone else suggested Nickelback is as good or deserves to be be as recognised as Miles/Sabbath/etc. All it had to do with was where the thread was placed.

I always thought it was because they were a talented and great band.

Thumbs down

NICKLEBACK! Oh dear I cant express how much I despise and hate this pathetic bunch of ****ing sell outs. Their music is extremely bland and boring, people have this preconceived (or at least im guessing they havent heard them yet) idea that they are a Hard Rock band?, I mean how the **** is Nickleback hard rock in comparison to the likes of Black Sabbath for instance, or even to the likes of Whitesnake/Deep Purple. I really cant get my head around why so many people like them, theyre music is nothing short of uninspiring rubbish.

As far as your statement goes:'Grunge music is the only music that makes sense' , you obviously havent heard Neil Young(who heavily influenced the Grunge movement) or Bob Dylan and hundreds of other artists i can be bothered to type, how can you say its the only genre that makes sense, its not even a genre in itself its a subgenre of Rock.
Not to say that I dont like grunge, I just think Nirvana are amongst the worst of all the grunge bands I mean i would rate Alice In Chains the best for lyrics, Pearl Jam the best for music & Soundgarden the best for vocals, & Nirvana the best for more hype other than great music. Ok i like a few tracks 'About A Girl' & 'Something In The Way' but you have to admit their lyrics were mostly guff. Also another good grunge band you may like is Mother Love Bone, they ony had one album as the lead singer Andrew Wood died during or not long after the completion of their first (and only) 1990 debut album. I also think future Pearl Jam memebers vStone Gossard and Mike mccready/or Jeff Ament started of in this band.
So I'm just guessing you have a narrow minded view on music and have not really properly opened up to any other artists outside of the 'Grunge' genre which is good but there really are so many more great artists outside of that genre. I can understand where youre thoughts are coming from obviously the mainstream rock/pop/rubbish in the charts is just manufactured rubbish made to sell out and make people money and not about 'real' inspiring music or even lyrics in some case (just check out Lady Gaga or Lilly Allen). So yes I can relate to your comment but not outside of the obvious mainstream crap which i dont pay attention to at all & also outisde of Grunge genre.
I hope you agree

^How about both of you listen to actual grunge music and stop listing Nirvana and AIC as grunge bands.

Because I have an opinion. Isn't that what this whole site is all about?

But you know what? Its fine. I should have known better than to come into the Nickleback thread to begin with, because I think they're a ****ty band and I despise ****ty bands. So I'll just drop it here. Because its like they say, and its always been a long-held opinion of my own: "Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."

LOL. Can someone please explain this magical new definition of grunge that doesn't include Nirvana?

I think he might be referring to bands like Mudhoney and Mother Love Bone.
